BAKER CITY -- A Walla Walla woman was critically injured in a motorcycle crash that left another rider dead at midday Monday as two couples were riding north on Highway 7 southwest of Baker City.
Joanne Mohrland, 53, of Walla Walla was airlifted to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise after the crash, officials said. Leta Louise Currey, 46, of Pendleton was pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision occurred at roughly 12:30 p.m. when a southbound 1994 Nissan pickup driven by Derrick Coates, 24, passed the first motorcycle and then crossed the center line, striking Currey and Mohrland on separate motorcycles. The fourth motorcyclist was not hit.
Morhland was listed in critical condition this morning, according to an Oregon State Police news release.
