Joseph K Startin of Yakima, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. Joseph was born on April 7, 1926, to Sedric and Hazel (Kitterman) Startin in Dayton. He graduated from Dayton High School in 1946. He married Nadine Turner in 1950. He owned and operated a Barbershop in Waitsburg until 1973 when he moved back to Dayton, retiring from the Columbia County Highway Dept. in 1990. Joseph loved gardening and fishing, spending many hours doing both. In 2003 he and his wife moved to Yakima to be closer to their daughter. After his wife's passing in 2008 he enjoyed the last four years living at Sun Tower Retirement Apartments where he made many friends. He was a huge sports fan, every season believing that his Huskies would make the playoffs.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Woodall of Yakima; a son, Thomas (Katy) Startin of Albany, Ore.; three sisters, Shirley (Al) Malean of Stanwood, Wash.; Pat (Hal) Roy of West Covina, Calif., and Joyce (Loren) Lorenzen of Tualatin, Ore.; five grandchildren, Kyle, Kari, and Kaleb Startin, Dru Eshleman, Laura Woodall; and special friends, Mary Rideout and Steve Reece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Bob, Ray and Fay Startin; and one sister, Janice Mackliet-Carrick.
A graveside service will be held at the Dayton Cemetery Saturday June 2, 2012, at 10 a.m followed by a gathering at the Delaney Building. Arrangements are by Hubbard-Rogg Funeral Home in Dayton, WA.
