Grace Records, Milton-Freewater, passed away May 25, 2012, at her home at the age of 98 years. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater with Chaplain Keith Hixson officiating. Ritualistic services conducted by Integrity Rebekah Lodge #175. Private interment will be in Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ingle Chapel Congregational Church or Integrity Rebekah Lodge #175 through the funeral home.
Grace was born April 30, 1914, in Channing, Texas, the daughter of Earl and Martha Patty McAllister. Her family moved to Milton-Freewater when she was 9 years old. Her father died as a result of an accident while working on a WPA program on Lincton Mountain and she helped raise her younger siblings. Grace married Thor Jungels in 1937, and they moved to Minnesota. She returned to Milton-Freewater with her infant son, and the couple were later divorced. On April 24, 1943, Grace married Max Records in Walla Walla, and the couple lived in Umapine, where they ran the scales. They later moved to the family farm on Records Lane. Grace was a housewife, caregiver and worked packing apples. She was the mother of nine children, and took great joy in raising them. At the age of 63, after losing her husband to cancer on Feb. 10, 1977, Grace, still on the family farm, learned to drive and remained on the farm for several years. Later moving to Milton-Freewater, where she became active in the Ingle Chapel Congregational Church and renewed her membership in the Rebekah Lodge. Her hobbies included handiwork, quilting, sewing, gardening and fishing with her son Lyle, who cared for her, which allowed her to live on her own for many years. At age 96, she went to live at Good Samaritan Home on Appleton Road, and added another family to share her remaining years. She was a member of the Ingle Chapel Congregational Church and Integrity Rebekah Lodge #175.
Survivors include five sons and their wives, Vern and Sheryl Records of Eltopia, Wash., Earl and Wanda Records of Walla Walla, Lyle Records of Milton-Freewater, Roger and Joan Records of Montesano, Wash., Ronald and Tillie Jungels of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Chad Gundlach of Spokane, Eddie and Ken Walker of Walla Walla; daughter-in-law, Paula Records Johnson of Pasco; a sister and her husband, Glenna and Burton Corsen of San Jose, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Jean Records; a son, Lynn Records; a grandson, Bryan Records; a brother, Orville McAllister; sisters, Hazel Creel, June Sorseth, Mary Wendt, and Athel Mae Boschee.
