I am greatly disappointed with the U-B's endorsement of Rich Cowan over Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers.
I'll give the U-B credit for acknowledging it will be a steep learning curve and will take some time until Cowan is up to speed if elected. However, I don't agree that the wait will be worth it.
The Democrats won't allow him, as a freshman, to vote any way but the party line. Therefore he will be voting and supporting legislation and ideas that have failed.
I respect Cathy because she's listening to and responding to voters in our district and across the state and country. The economy is in dire fiscal shape and needs to be fixed.
I expect my representatives to take on and solve these difficult problems. That is exactly what Cathy has done. She's taken tough stands against the D.C. establishment and criticized both parties for spending too much.
Cathy believes in putting people first rather than government and her voting record reflects this. Rather than just proposing another tax increase or throwing money at an issue (TARP/bailout/stimulus packages), she's working for solutions to these problems that will have long-term viability.
Further, she has worked in bipartisan fashion on stopping the Walla Walla VA from closure and helping gain support for the four-laning of U.S. Highway 12.
House Republicans have shown they care most about getting the economy moving. We don't need to keep moving in our current problematic direction, we need a government with a proven record of solving economic problems.
That is why we need to keep the leadership of Cathy McMorris Rodgers as our representative in the House.
