HEPPNER – The Weston-McEwen TigerScots lost, 42-0, to the Blue Mountain Conference champion Heppner Mustangs here Friday night.
With the loss, the TigerScots are also eliminated from the playoffs.
Even with the loss, W-M could have snuck in the back door and made the playoffs with a different result from the Enterprise versus Stanfield game. Stanfield won 35-34 and that left W-M tied for the fourth and final playoff spot with Enterprise at a 4-3 league record.
The tiebreaker, a head-to-head loss to Enterpise, knocked out the TigerScots.
“I’m really proud of the whole team and this season,” W-M coach Kenzie Hansell said. “We fought hard the last four games to get on that win streak. We won four in a row prior and had a great effort from our team, coaching staff and support from our community all season long.”
The Mustangs had a balanced attack with quarterback Stephen Thompson throwing for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Aidan Wright ran 22 times for 133 yards.
The Mustangs also benefited from four TigerScot turnovers. W-M fumbled and lost the ball twice while throwing two interceptions.
Tyler Peterson had 37 carries for 165 yards to lead the TigerScots.
“We ran the ball well,” Hansell said. “But when you are playing a team as disciplined and well-coached as Heppner, you can’t have the turnovers or big plays given up to them.”
