Vilter and Lawhead set to return to Walla Walla Sweets in 2013


WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Sweets have announced the re-signing of infielder Nick Vilter and pitcher Conner Lawhead for the 2013 season.

Lawhead, a late addition to the Sweets pitching staff in 2012, is a 5-foot 8-inch, 160-pound right-handed pitcher from Sammamish, Wash. He appeared in four games for the Sweets last season and posted a 0-1 record with a 1.00 ERA.

In nine innings of work, Lawhead struck out seven batters and issued five walks.

A junior at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne, Lawhead pitched in 2012 for the Walla Walla Community College Warriors. He was 1-3 with 5 saves and a 2.27 ERA in 51.1 innings of work for the Warriors. In 2012 he was a First Team All-East Region selection and was named second team All-Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

Vilter, a sophomore at UC Riverside, is a 6-foot 3-inch, 220-pound infielder from Seal Beach, Calif.

Last season, Vilter appeared in 31 games for the Sweets and hit .252 with seven doubles, three home runs, 16 RBI, and three stolen bases.

Vilter joined the Sweets in 2012 after his freshman season at UC Riverside, where in 83 plate appearances he hit .229 with six doubles, one home run, and nine RBI.
