Dayton falls to Liberty, 20-13


SPANGLE — Lowden Smith plowed into the end zone from one yard out in the third quarter here Friday in district 7/9 cross over football action.

Smith’s plunge got Dayton to within 20-13, but Liberty High of Spangle pitched a shutout the rest of the way and the Bulldogs season ended with the 20-13 loss.

Dayton scored first as Kane Hackett ran in from one-yard out and Smith added the PAT for a 7-0 Bulldog lead.

Liberty answered with a touchdown, but the Bulldogs stopped the PAT run and held onto a 7-6 lead after one.

Liberty scored 14 unanswered points to take a 20-7 lead in the third period.

Dayton made one more march as Smith’s short run got the Bulldogs within seven. The defenses took over as neither team scored in the fourth period. Liberty took its third win of the season to finish at 3-7.

The loss ended Dayton’s season at 1-8. Seven contributing Bulldog seniors — Wyatt Frame, Isaiah Lambert, Alex Naylor, Chris Conley, Johnny Sanchez, Dakota Hayes, and Hackett — will leave the program better than when they started.
