'King for a Day' to be performed at WWCC

WALLA WALLA — Tickets are still available for Thursday’s performance of Guiseppe Verdi’s “King for a Day” at Walla Walla Community College.

The comic opera, being performed by the Seattle Opera Young Artists, starts at 7 p.m. in the college’s Performing Arts Auditorium. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students, and available through the college bookstore by calling 527-4575.

The Seattle Opera Young Artists Program for young professional opera singers is bringing Verdi’s first comedy to Walla Walla as part of a year-long celebration of the composer’s bicentennial, according to the program’s website.

“King for a Day” follows the story of Cavaliere Belfiore and what befalls when he is roped into impersonating the king of Poland. The Walla Walla performance is hosted by the WWCC Music Department. The opera is being performed in Italian with English subtitles.
