WALLA WALLA — Whitman College outside hitter Jillian Davis has been named to the all-Northwest Conference volleyball first team for the second time in three years.
The junior was also a first-team selection in 2010, when she was also named the West Region Freshman of the Year. Davis was a second-team all-conference selection as a sophomore.
“She is the complete team player who also has excellent volleyball skills,” first-year Whitman coach Matt Helm said. “I am so proud of all of her accomplishments.
“Most volleyball fans would notice Jillian for her unbelievable arm swing and thunderous spikes. I like to recognize Jill for her consistent serve receive, unpredictable serve location and undeniable leadership. Her accolades are attributed to her work ethic and leadership.”
Earning a spot on the all-conference second team is senior middle blocker Olivia Nielson. Nielson, who is from Anchroage, Alaska, ranked ninth in NCAA Division III in blocks per game.
“I was so excited to watch Olivia develop this year and couldn’t be more proud of her.” Helm said. “She is the player in the gym who doesn’t complain and does the work. She leads by example and, obviously by her stats, she loves to block.”
Rounding out the honors is senior middle blocker Courtney Brewer, also from Anchorage, who earned NWC honorable mention.
