Walla Walla’s annual Toys for Tots Campaign is in full swing.

More than 20 businesses and other locations have been established as designated dropoff points for new, unwrapped gifts for children in need.

Everything collected during the drive will be distributed to local kids from newborns to 18-year-olds, said coordinator Beth Swanson.

This year is the 65th for the national drive, and the sixth consecutive year for Walla Walla since the campaign returned to the community. Last year’s efforts resulted in items for 1,196 children spanning Dayton to College Place, Swanson said.

As in the past, the distribution will take place in cooperation with St. Vincent de Paul, Walla Walla Public Schools, the YWCA and local medical centers and other nonprofits.

From Monday through Nov. 23, families in need of toys can pick up an application at St. Vincent’s, 308 W. Main St., 9:30 a.m.-noon. The timeframe has changed this year in order to coordinate more smoothly with the Salvation Army.

Applications will also be available at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 323 Catherine St., Dec. 3-12, and in Dayton at Country Cupboard, 330 E. Main St., Nov. 19-30. Participants are asked to apply at just one spot. There can be no duplication.

Local Marines will collect toys and donations at First Avenue and Main Street on Dec. 1 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

In the meantime, new, unwrapped toys or cash donations can be delivered to: Book & Game Co., 38 E. Main St.; Starbucks, First and Main; Community Bank, 28 E. Alder St.; Community Bank, Myra Road; Providence St. Mary Medical Center, 401 W. Poplar St.; Walla Walla Sweets Shoppe, 109 E. Main St.; Inland Cellular, 1605 S.E. Meadowbrook Blvd., College Place; AAA Washington, 1361 Dalles Military Road; NAPA, 1830 E. Isaacs Ave.; O’Brien Chevrolet, Dalles Military Road; Walla Walla Bread Co., 225 E. Main St.; Falkenbergs Jewelers, 6 E. Main St.; Legacy of Walla Walla, 11 N. Colville St.; John L. Scott Realty, 10 S. Fourth Ave.; Parent to Parent, Kelly Place; The Sweet Putt, 417 Wellington Ave.; Adventist Health Medical Group Pediatrics, 1125 S. Second Ave.; Windermere, 202 S. First Ave.; Walgreens, 633 W. Tietan St.; Waitsburg Hardware & Mercantile, 134 Main St., Waitsburg; Inland Cellular, 151 E. Main St., Dayton; Country Cupboard, 330 Main St., Dayton.

Additionally, Book & Game will offer a 20 percent discount on items purchased in-store for the cause. The Sweet Putt will also offer half-off unlimited indoor golf with a toy donation.
