Jess and Sandi Roddick of Walla Walla celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary Oct. 21, 2012, on a Hawaiian Island cruise.
They were childhood sweethearts. They married Oct. 21, 1967, at First United Methodist Church in San Bernardino, Calif. Sandi’s maiden name is Hughes.
Jess volunteered for the draft in 1965 and served two years with the U.S. Army. He worked for 20 years for General Telephone Co. in San Bernardino and in East Wenatchee.
After his layoff, they moved to Federal Way, Wash. He was a traffic signal technician for 22 years with the Washington State Department of Transportation in Seattle. He retired in 2006.
Sandi worked two years for the Douglas Country Parks and Recreation Department in East Wenatchee before moving to Federal Way in 1985. She continued a career with Travelers Surety Co. as a senior administrative assistant for 18 years before retiring in June 2009.
They built their home here and moved in a week after Sandi retired in June 2009.
Since then, they enjoy traveling and entertaining family and friends.
They both feel blessed living in Walla Walla and love their new community greatly.
Jess continues with his hobby of making beer and root beer while Sandi enjoys her amateur photography.
They have two children, Ron and Rori Roddick and one grandson, Christopher, all of Federal Way.
