COLLEGE PLACE — Marcel Towns, a 6-foot-2 junior guard from Tempe, Ariz., struck for 32 points here Sunday and led the University of Great Falls, Mont., to a 71-48 men’s college basketball victory over Walla Walla University.

The Wolves, who suffered a more painful 68-62 defeat at the hands of Portland Bible College on Saturday night, saw their record slide to 0-8.

In Sunday’s game, Great Falls built a 39-24 halftime advantage and continued to pull away after the break. David Udadigbo was the Montanans’ only other double-figure scorer with 11 points, and TJ Harris and James Holmes pulled down six rebounds each.

Walla Walla was led by Tristan Greenidge’s 18 points and six rebounds.

The Wolves outrebounded Great Falls 40-37 after commanding the glass 46-32 in Saturday’s loss to Portland Bible. Miguel Martinez led WWU with 11 rebounds.

The Wolves also hit 26-of-59 shots from the floor, a .441 percentage that was slightly better than Portland’s .424 percentage on 25-for-59 shooting overall.

But for the Wolves, the farther away from the basket, the less effective they were. They sank 5-of-15 free throws (.333) compared to Portland’s 9-for-18 effort (.500). And from beyond the 3-point arc, Walla Walla was 5-for-25 (.200) and Portland was 10-for-29 (.345).

Martinez led the Wolves in scoring with 17 points. Doug Noteboom led the visitors with 15 points.

The Walla Wallans hit the road this weekend to participate in the College of Idaho’s Golden Rule Shootout in Caldwell, Idaho. The Wolves play Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m.
