Marine Corps' Toys for Tots holiday gift campaign gears up


Ooh-rah! The local U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign is under way.

This year marks the 65th year for Toys for Tots and the sixth year of the Walla Walla campaign.

Last year donations were distributed to 1,196 local children up to age 18 from Dayton to College Place, according to local campaign coordinator Beth Swanson.

Once again Toys for Tots is working with St. Vincent de Paul, Walla Walla Public Schools, the YWCA, the medical centers and other nonprofits to ensure that every child in the Valley receives a little Christmas.

Following is a list of sites where new, unwrapped gifts may be dropped off:

Toys for Tots volunteers and local Marines will collect donations Dec. 1 at First and Main in downtown Walla Walla from 11a.m. to 1pm. That evening the NAPA Toys for Tots float will be in the Parade of Lights.

To request toys, families may pick up an application at St. Vincent de Paul, 308 W. Main St., from 9:30 a.m.-noon Nov. 12-23; St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 323 Catherine St. from Dec. 3– 12; and in Dayton at Country Cupboard, 330 E. Main St., from Nov 19-30.

Please apply at only one location; there can be no duplication of applications.
