Hot beans, cool bling featured at benefit

WALLA WALLA -- Hot beans and cool bling will featured during Rising Sun Clubhouse's chili feed and auction fundraiser from 5-8 p.m. Nov. 17.

It will be in the Assumption Catholic Church fellowship hall, 2066 E. Alder St.

The organization, which provides social activity and life skills for people living with mental illness, had great success with the fundraising recipe last year, according to director Nicolette Harral.

"We decided to make this a yearly event after last November," she said.

More than 16 local businesses donated toward the silent auction and more than 100 people attended to enjoy the food and bid on items. Diners donated about $3,400 in 2011.

For the second time, Walla Walla band "Bizarre Love Triangle" will provide a selection of original, cover, rock, pop and contemporary songs during the evening.

Auction items will include varied items from local merchants, including a number of restaurant certificates.

Besides homemade chili, the dinner includes corn bread, vegetables and desserts.

Money raised will help provide programs for Rising Sun members and operating costs for the clubhouse.

The board is also raising $5,000 to meet requirements of a $24,400 matching grant from the Don and Virginia Sherwood Trust, Harral said.

"That would go into a reserve fund for equipment replacement."

The clubhouse has until the end of December to come up with its share and Harral hopes the chili feed will help.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and seniors. Kids 3 and under will be admitted for free.

Additional information is available at 529-0120 and tickets can be purchased at Rising Sun Clubhouse, 1520 Kelly Place, Suite 130, rear parking lot entrance.
