There will be a little less sparkle at the Meadowbrook Plaza with the upcoming closure of Harry Ritchie’s Jewelers.
A store-closing sale has been taking place at the shop, 1705 S.E. Meadowbrook Blvd. The store was designated as “underperforming,” according to an October news report out of Eugene, Ore.
Company officials say the economic downturn, internet sales and rise of new boutique shops have led to a decrease in business.
The College Place store is reportedly one of 10 the Eugene company plans to close in a restructuring strategy. The jeweler apparently made the announcement in early October.
Closures are slated for stores in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. That will leave the company with 20 stores in those states, as well as California.
Stores selected for closure are also in Spokane, Bellingham, Olympia and Kelso. Others in Oregon are located in Roseburg, Medford and Salem.
KMTR News in Eugene reported the closures will affect about 50 total employees.
The family-owned business opened in Eugene in 1956.
