GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Sixteen new Americans will be minted today in Gettysburg, welcomed by Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg on the 149th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s famous address.
The director of the new film about the 16th president will give the keynote address at the Soldier’s National Cemetery, accompanied by a Lincoln re-enactor reciting the “Gettysburg Address.”
Citizenship candidates from 11 countries are to take the oath of allegiance.
Gettysburg is where the U.S. military was able to stop an invasion of the North by Confederate troops under Gen. Robert E. Lee.
Lincoln gave the three-minute speech at the dedication of the cemetery four months after the battle.
