DAYTON — The city will crank up its Christmas spirit Friday and Saturday

The days after Thanksgiving may bring others to the big box stores, but the people in Dayton, along with many visitors, head downtown Friday and Saturday to enjoy Dayton’s annual Christmas Kickoff celebration.

“The Town that Still Believes” is the theme of the event, sponsored each year by the Dayton Chamber of Commerce.

This year’s celebration includes hayrides and a Nativity scene (complete with Izzie the camel), along with a lighted parade and special fireworks show Friday night.

The Dayton Historic Depot will host its annual Christmas Market, and the Depot, along with several downtown venues, will feature special art displays.

Shops on Main Street will be open all weekend, including late Friday night, and the Weinhard Hotel and many downtown restaurants will feature special entertainment.

And of course Santa will appear on Main Street to help make all of the children’s wishes come true.
