High-speed chase ends in DUI arrest

WALLA WALLA — Police arrested a 22-year-old man on investigation of driving while intoxicated after allegedly driving more than 40-miles-per-hour above the posted speed limit.

According to a Walla Walla Sheriff’s Office report, Curtis Aguilar was traveling eastbound on Alder Street when he passed a Sheriff’s Office patrol car. Sgt. Jim Romine wrote in his report that Aquilar appeared to be traveling at roughly 45 mph in the 25 mph zone.

Romine wrote that Aguilar “accelerated hard” in his 4x4 truck when he spotted the patrol car. Romine began following the vehicle, which turned north onto Tausick Way, eventually reaching speeds of 85 mph.

According to the report, Aguilar turned onto Isaacs Avenue and stopped his Dodge pickup when Romine turned on his lights. During an interview following the traffic stop, officers stated it appeared Aguilar was intoxicated. Police also linked Aguilar to a hit-and-run collision in the Walmart parking lot.

Aguilar was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Aguilar was also issued a speeding ticket totaling $411. Aguilar may face further charges from the College Place Police Department.
