PENDLETON (AP) — A 16-year-old 4-H Club member is pushing for a smoke-free Umatilla County Fair.
As a member of the Helix Heart of the County 4-H Club, Jarred Cope spends a lot of time at the fair and camped out near the carnival. The location also is a popular spot for smoke breaks by carnival workers.
The East Oregonian reports that Cope and five other club members told the Umatilla County Fair Board earlier this week they want a tobacco-free fair, and want to eliminate their exposure to secondhand smoke at their campers.
Umatilla County Fair Manager Peggy Clough says a decision likely will be made in January.
