Shopping local has its rewards. Like a $100 prize, for instance.
The Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce is bringing back its “Keep it Home for the Holidays” campaign, an enticement introduced last year to encourage consumers to support local businesses with their holiday shopping. Those who do so can earn a chance to win $100.
Every Friday until Christmas — starting this week — the Chamber will give away a $100 prize.
To get into the drawing, consumers just need to bring a receipt or business card from one of the Chamber’s 700 member businesses into the office, 29 E. Sumach St. The paper should have contact information from the person submitting it written on the back. Participants can enter as often as they’d like. No purchase is necessary.
The campaign serves a dual purpose: It provides a membership service to participating businesses and it encourages consumers to support local businesses, where money spent is considered an investment in the community. Not only do the taxable retail sales help fund services, but the revenues to local operators stay here, where they can be reinvested through expanded services or employment.
