Holiday season parades of lighted entries will illuminate Milton-Freewater, Walla Walla and Waitsburg this week.
In Milton-Freewater, the Christmas Magic Parade and Tree Lighting will start at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Ace Hardware parking lot, 11 N. Columbia St.
It will travel along Main Street to Valley Christian Center, 800 N. Main St., where cookies and a hot beverage will be served to those waiting to visit with Santa Claus and his elves.
The traditional tree lighting will follow at 8 p.m. on the City Hall lawn, 722 S. Main St.
The 17th annual Macy’s Holiday Parade of Lights will be 6 p.m. Saturday in downtown Walla Walla.
The circuitous route begins at Boyer Avenue, turns on Palouse Street to Alder Street, west to Fifth Avenue, then east on Main Street and back to Boyer Ave.
More than 50 lighted entries – tractors, horses, bicyclists, bands and old-fashioned floats — are expected.
There are several indoor spots to watch the parade, including the Walla Walla Public Library, 238 E. Alder St., where cookies and cider will be provided and the window bar at Olive Marketplace & Cafe, 21 E. Main St. However, most viewers bundle up and brave the weather to see the entries up close, according to the Downtwon Walla Walla Foundation website.
Prizes will be awarded in seven categories plus a Best Entry trophy, to be announced at Land Title Plaza at First Avenue and Main Street.
Waitsburg’s 26th annual Hometown Christmas celebration includes a lighted parade down Main Street at 5 p.m. Sunday.
