'King of New Mexico' tejano superstar to perform Saturday


PENDLETON — Tejano superstar Tobias Rene will appear in Rivers Events Center at Wildhorse Resort & Casino at 8 p.m. Saturday. The show is free for adults 21 and older.

A New Mexico native, Rene was declared the “King of New Mexico Music” in 2004 by New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson because of the astonishing hits from his first album “Por Primera Vez,” and his career has not slowed down since.

Known for recording and performing traditional Spanish music, Rene has accumulated a number of awards for his talents. He has 12 Hispano Music Awards including Male Vocalist of the Year, Band of the Year, CD of the Year, Song of the Year and many more.

Rene specializes in traditional New Mexico, Tex Mex and Mexican American music. He regularly headlines and shares top billing with acts such as Little Joe, Ruben Ramos, Los Lobos, Ozomatli and several others.

Rene will share the stage with a local Walla Walla band, Grupo Mizmo. Grupo Mizmo has played music together since the 1980’s and features members Luis, Manuel and Ramon Ocanaz, Luis Jr. and Tino Garcia and Roy Garza.

Doors to the Tejano Festival will open at 7 p.m. Grupo Mizmo will take the stage at 8 followed by headliner Tobias Rene. More information can be found at wildhorseresort.com.
