A College Place woman was killed and five other people injured in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 12 on Friday afternoon.
Ruth E. Garcia, 36, was a passenger in a westbound 1997 Toyota Corolla driven by Henry L. Thacker, 38, of Walla Walla, that hit an eastbound 2003 Dodge Intrepid during an attempt to pass at 4:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol.
Thacker and three other passengers in the Corolla were taken to hospitals with injuries.
The Intrepid's driver, Lynda G. West, 51, of Richland, was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland with injuries.
Thacker's other passengers, Angelique Garcia, 37, and Andres Medina-Garcia, 7, were taken to Kadlec, and Justino Garcia, 11, was taken by private vehicle to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, according to the release. Angelique Garcia and the two boys are all from College Place.
All six people were using restraints, police said.
The initial report indicated that drugs or alcohol were not suspected as factors in the wreck.
