WAITSBURG — DeSales picked up its first Southeast 2B volleyball victory with a hard-fought, five-set defeat of Waitsburg-Prescott here Thursday night.
The Irish took the match 25-20, 17-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-8.
“I am extremely proud of how the girls came back and fought,” DeSales coach Hailee Cole said. “We were down two games, and they could have easily given up. But instead, they pulled together as a team and fought back to win the last two sets. They showed a lot of maturity, and a lot of heart. I think this will give us some more confidence going into the second half of the season, and I’m excited to see what we will do.”
Teresa Acock had eight kills and 23 digs in the Irish victory.
Renee Roach recorded 18 assists, nine digs, was 11-of-11 serving, and had an ace; Ashton Montgomery had nine kills, was 20-of-20 serving, five aces and 16 digs; Claire Conley had 13 kills, was 11-of-11 serving and three blocks; Alyssa James had six kills, was 15-of-17 serving with five digs; Hannah Leahy put up four kills and 14 digs; and Allesyn Lyons had two kills, 13 assists, was 16-of-16 serving and had 11 digs.
“Our serving really helped us tonight,” Cole said. “As a team, we served 88-of-93 and had 14 aces.”
For W-P, Rhiannon Chapman had 13 digs and three aces, Krystal Harris had 16 kills, 12 digs and five aces, Samantha Fedderson put up 10 kills, 19 digs and two blocks.
Analise Salazar picked up 12 digs, and Jaidyn Brown dished out 19 assists.
The Irish, now 1-4 in SE2B play, host Asotin Tuesday.
W-P, 0-5 in league and 4-8 overall, hosts Walla Walla Valley Academy Tuesday.
