POMEROY — Homestanding Pomeroy won a Southeast 1B volleyball match with Touchet Thursday night, 25-13, 25-15, 25-17.
Mackie Monahan recorded 12 kills and was 13-of-13 serving for the Pirates in the victory.
Ireland Mayfield dished 18 assists, Savannah Ruark put up three blocks, was 16-of-16 serving with three aces and three digs, and Toni Cloud was 8-of-8 serving.
“Tonight was a nightmare,” Touchet coach April Miller said. “I have eight varsity players. I lost my starting middle blocker to what, hopefully, is only an ankle sprain, and then my libero started showing signs of a concussion and had to sit out.
“Anytime we have to drop girls off on the way home to go straight to the doctor is just an aweful night.”
Morgan Cardwell came up with five digs for the Indians.
Cierra Jo McKeown had four kills and four blocks, Shelby Gould was 4-of-4 serving with three aces and three kills, Kristen Warner had three kills, and Morgan Downing dished 10 assists.
“We changed from our 6-2 and ran a new, for us, 5-1,” Miller said. “The girls responded pretty good. We moved our freshman setter to a middle blocker position, where she has never played. Then we played our sick sophomore as our setter.
“It wasn’t flawless, but they learned a lot and continued to make better adjustments as the night went on,” she said. “I’m proud of this group of girls. They had great attitudes no matter what and stuck together as a team tonight. Without that teamwork glue, this would have been a whole different story.
“Pomeroy is good and they are coached well,” Miller said. “It was fun to play them. They are smart players and run a fun offense. We love to see the quick sets and push ourselves to get better.”
Touchet, now 0-3 in SE1B play, hosts Rosalia Tuesday.
Pomeroy, 1-2 in SE1B play, heads to the Genesee Tournament Saturday.
