WALLA WALLA — The Blue Devils girls soccer team fell to Chiawana 1-0 in a Mid-Columbia Conference matchup here Saturday.
“We’ve been working on finishing in practice and that is why we got more shots,” Wa-Hi coach Jesse Cruz said. “But we still have to learn how to put the ball in the back of the net. Once we learn how to score, we won’t forget how.”
Each team had seven shots on goal and the Wa-Hi goalkeeper Alyssa James had six saves.
“The goal that Chiawana scored was not Alyssa’s fault,” Cruz explained. “They had a great pass and a breakaway to score. Sometimes the goalkeeper is just like a sitting duck.”
Despite the 2-7 league record, Cruz feels that his team has been playing better.
“All of the teams from Tri-Cities know that they’ll have to play well and work hard to beat us,” he said.
Wa-Hi plays again Tuesday at Chiawana at 4 p.m.
