LA GRANDE — The Dry Side Shootout was a good race for the Mac-Hi Pioneers cross country team, Mac-Hi coach John Milleson said.
It was even better than good.
“I couldn’t have asked for more than what I got out of the kids today,” Milleson said.
Without their top two runners, the boys team finished second out of five high schools and the full girls team took first in the 5,000-meter run.
In the varsity ranks, Cody Harmon led the Pioneer boys with a seventh-place finish in 18:53.80. Chandler Simpson was ninth in 18:58.60, Andrew Kain 10th in 19:07, and Raudel Garcia 11th in 19:29.70.
For the Mac-Hi girls, Josie Lonai finished second in 19:35.20, followed by Susie Romero-Diaz in third in 20:51.70.
Kristi Childers came in ninth in 22:45.20, and Cristian Lara 11th in 23:45.20.
“It was a great day and everybody stepped up,” Milleson said. “It was a personal best for everyone at this distance.”
Mac-Hi hosts the Gutbuster Friday, comprised of nine high schools.
