Shorthanded Irish downed by Panthers

WALLA WALLA — Asotin defeated DeSales in straight sets Tuesday in Southeast 2B volleyball, 25-12, 25-15 and 25-18.

“Tonight was a tough night,” DeSales coach Hailee Cole said. “We didn’t have our full team due to illness, and had several girls playing in different positions.

“I was hoping we would use the opportunity to overcome these obstacles and compete against a great team,” Cole continued, “and unfortunately we weren’t able to do that tonight.”

Teresa Acock dug up 18 balls to lead the short-handed Irish (1-5).

Renee Roach added eight digs, four assists and was 11-for-11 from the line.

Hannah Leahy score five kills and six digs; Brittany Lemons two kills and a block; Ashton Montgomery eight digs; Claire Conley a kill, a 10-for-10 performance at the line and seven digs; Allesyn Lyons three kills, three assists and three digs.

“It was disappointing, because there is no excuse to not show up for a game and compete hard, so I was a little disappointed in the effort tonight,” Cole said. “The girls did get better in each game, but it was just too late.”

DeSales visits Walla Walla Valley Academy Thursday at 6 p.m.

“I think this will be a good learning lesson for the girls, no matter what the circumstances you have to always go out and compete,” Cole said.
