WASHTUCNA — Pomeroy picked up its Southeast 1B volleyball victory of the year over LaCrosse-Washtucna Thursday night, defeating the TigerCats 25-13, 27-25 and 25-23.
The Pirates (2-3 SE1B, 9-11) rolled to its first-set victory, but rallied from a 22-17 deficit to take the second set.
“I thought it was a good comeback in set two, being down 22-17,” Pomeroy coach Bruce Crossfield said. “We did some things well and obviously they did some things well too. I’ve always maintained that any time you can win a league match on the road that’s a good accomplishment.”
Ally Botts sparked the Pirates with solid serving during the six-point rally.
“She kind of had them on their heels a little bit,” Crossfield said of Botts.
Pomeroy held a 21-16 lead in the third set, but the TigerCats responded with a seven-point run to take a 23-22 lead before Pomeroy salvaged the match-set.
With two victories the Pirates are in solid position to make the eight-team SE1B tournament, but face a critical match with Garfield-Palouse Tuesday during Pink Out the Gym Night that will likely determine whether Pomeroy will need to play a single-elimination match before advancing to the double-elimination portion of the tourney.
