COLLEGE PLACE — Dr. Serena Tonstad will discuss obesity and lifestyle changes during a talk Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Auditorium at Walla Walla University.
Tonstad, a professor at Loma Linda Universtiy in California, is an internationally recognized expert in health and preventive medicine.
Tonstad will discuss why people get fat, the effectiveness of weight-loss counseling and weight-loss products and why most non-surgical treatments for obesity end in relapse.
As well, she will talk about how life style changes actually help and how much part exercise and nutrition play in stemming the tide of obesity. Individual and community approaches will be part of her presentation.
Dr. Carl Bauer, retired from Walla Walla General Hospital, will moderate the question-and answer session.
The event is free and open to the public.
