ONTARIO — In a tale of two halves, Mac-Hi dropped a 3-2 Greater Oregon League match to host Ontario here Saturday.
The Tigers jumped to a 3-0 lead at intermission and fired 18 shots at the Pioneers. Mac-Hi only got off four shots in the first half.
“We had a slow start, got bunched up and didn’t play well,” Mac-Hi coach Martin Martinez said of the Pioneer’s first half. “We had a little talk at half. We talked about closing the gaps, playing give and go, and overlapping. The stuff we practice. We started rolling in the second half.”
Mac-Hi got one back off a corner kick. Makia Carlson handled the in coming corner and got the ball to Astrid Hernandez who found the back of the net to cut the Tiger lead to 3-1.
Kariss Carrillo passed to Alexi Breeding who finished to pull Mac-Hi even closer at 3-2, but the Pioneers couldn’t get it even.
“They (Ontario) only got four shots in the second half,” Martinez said. “It was pretty intense and we had some opportunities (near the end).”
Sam Tveidt, in goal for Mac-Hi, put up 19 saves to keep the Pioneers within striking distance.
The loss drops Mac-Hi to 4-3-1 overall and 2-3 in GOL play.
The Pioneers host La Grande Thursday at 2 p.m.
