T-C Prep dominates Bulldogs, 42-0

PASCO — Dayton ran into a determined offensive and defensive front here Friday in Southeast 2B football action.

Tri-Cities Prep ran for 337 yards, pitched a shutout at the Bulldogs, and scored in every quarter to post a 42-0 win.

“They beat us up front,” Bulldog coach Dean Bickelhaupt said. “That’s the best defensive front line that we’ve played against. They run a 3-5 like we do. Dan (TCP coach Whitsett) has done a good job and coached them up.”

The Bulldogs gave up a 68-yard gallop to Bailey Rivas on the Jaguars first possession and the tone was set.

“That (run) put us back on our heels,” Bickelhaupt said. “But, we battled back and forth after that for the rest of the first.”

TCP took a 7-0 lead after one.

The Jaguars converted a Bulldog fumble into seven points and scored with a minute left in the half to have control at 21-0 at intermission.

Dayton opened the second half on a mission, but the penalty bug bit. Wyatt Frame broke a run to the Jaguar 25 just to see it called back on an illegal block penalty. It was Isaiah Lambert’s turn as Lambert broke a 20-yard gallop, but an infraction again called it back.

“I started Wyatt at quarterback because we haven’t been able to get anything going on offense,” Bickelhaupt said. “He broke a couple of nice runs to the outside, but we lost our momentum after those two penalties. They (TCP) started powering (after the penalties) and it just escalated from there.”

TCP finished this off with a 21-point second half to emerge with a 42-0 win.

“Our problem all year has been to get something going on offense,” Bickelhaupt said. “We just can’t get going and our D gets worn down, but our kids continue to play hard.”

Rivas led TCP, (2-1 in SE 2B play) with 172 yards on 19 carries. TCP hosts DeSales Friday.

With starting fullback, Kane Hackett nursing an injury, and Lambert hobbled with an ankle, the Bulldogs get a chance to heal as they head to their bye week.

Dayton travels to winless Mabton October 26.

“The bye will get us healthy,” Bickelhaupt said. “It will be good to go to Mabton healthy.”
