Pair of stolen saddles make their way home

WALLA WALLA – More than two weeks after stealing a pair of saddles from a residence on Old Milton Highway, suspects unknown returned the tack to Alvino Mata and Vanessa Mele.

According to Mele, her husband found the pair of saddles sitting on a fence outside their home Monday morning.

“He went to let the dogs out, and both of our saddles were sitting there,” Mele said this morning. “The saddles are fine. Were still missing a couple bridles, several bits and reins.”

Mele said the pair is happy to have the saddles back, though.

“The most expensive part was the saddles.” Mele said.

It wasn’t clear why the saddles were returned. According to Mele, her husband’s Charro saddle had his initials on either side of the pommel, and her saddle “is girly.”

The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office said saddles and tack reported stolen in the Waitsburg area have not been returned.
