Young dancers sought for 'Nutcracker' auditions


WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Symphony, The Dance Center and the Eugene Ballet will hold dance auditions for young dancers Sunday for the Dec. 15 performances of the Nutcracker at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Cordiner Hall.

Auditions will start at 1 p.m. at The Dance Center, 129 E. Alder St., Suite B. There is a $5 audition fee.

Auditions are for: Waltz of the Flowers, 1–2 p.m. (3 years pointe experience required); Party Children 2–3:30 p.m. (ages 11-15); Cavalry 3:30–4 p.m. (ages 11 and up); Dragons 4–4:30 p.m. (ages 10 – 13); Lady Bugs 4:30–5:30 p.m. (ages 9 – 11); Angels 5:30–6 p.m. (ages 7 – 9); and Baby Mice 6–6:30 p.m. (ages 5 – 7).

All students audition in flat technique shoes except “Waltz of the Flowers” who audition en pointe. Students should arrive at least 20 minutes prior to audition time to fill out registration forms. Girls should wear class uniforms, or a solid-colored leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes, and hair should be secured in a bun. Boys should wear white T-shirts, black tights and black ballet shoes.

Rehearsals will be from 3–6 p.m. Saturdays with Idalee Hutson-Fish at The Dance Center. Dress rehearsal is Dec. 14 at Cordiner Hall with the Eugene Ballet and Walla Walla Symphony.
