Wet weather brings end to fire restrictions in forests

WALLA WALLA — The recent rainstorms have led to fire restrictions being lifted on national forest lands.

Campfires, smoking, chainsaws, generators, and other internal combustion engines are now allowed on the Umatilla National Forest and the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. Fire restrictions remain in effect along the Snake River in the Hells Canyon National Recreational Area.

Despite the lower risk, forest officials continue to urge visitors to use caution when building and tending campfires, warming fires, cooking fires, and fires in wood stoves.

Information on restrictions is available at 877-958-9663 or www.fs.usda.gov/umatilla/.
