DAYTON — Dayton defeated visiting DeSales in three sets Thursday, downing the Irish 25-20, 25-19 and 25-20, in a Southeast 2B volleyball match.
The Bulldogs (5-4 SE2B), already guaranteed a spot in the regional tournament against District 7, are now battling for the league’s second seed with Tri-Cities Prep.
DeSales falls to 1-8 in league.
“I feel like in many ways this is the best game we’ve played all season,” Irish coach Hailee Cole said. “The girls were doing things that I haven’t seen them do, and I was just so impressed with their effort The third game we had a huge comeback, and I saw the fight in the girls that I’ve been wanting to see, and I was really happy about that.”
McKayla Bickelhaupt led the Bulldogs with 13 kills, 14 digs, a 12-for-12 performance at the line and four aces.
Jessica Tate went 17-for-17 from the line and had 20 assists.
Maddison Mings also went 17-for-17 while scoring four aces, eight kills and a pair of blocks.
DeSales’ Allesyn Lyons scored nine kills and 10 assists. Teresa Acock added three kills and 15 digs.
Renee Roach had six assists; Brittany Lemons two blocks; Ashton Montgomery 26-for-26 at the line, three aces and eight digs; Alyssa James three kills and six digs; Claire Conley five kills; and Hannah Leahy four kills and 15 digs.
The Bulldogs host Walla Walla Valley Academy Tuesday at 6 p.m.
DeSales hosts Waitsburg-Prescott on the same day and at the same time. The Irish are wearing pink to raise breast cance awareness.
