WALLA WALLA — The Blue Devils were unsuccessful in fending off Hanford in a dual swimming meet Saturday at Whitman’s Harvey Pool, losing by a score of 108-62.
“Hanford is a small but fast team,” Wa-Hi coach Katharine Curles said. “We had a lot of races to step up to, and our girls did a good job.”
Despite the loss on the scoreboard, Wa-Hi had several great individual performances.
“Cheyenne Schoen had an incredible meet,” Curles said. “She swam out of her mind today.”
Schoen took first in the 100-yard fly in 1 minute and 2.91 seconds and second in the 100 breast with a 1:10.95, and had some strong splits in relay races as well.
She helped the 200 medley to a first-place finish (1:56.30) and helped the 200 freestyle to a second-place finish (1:46.85).
Both relay teams also consisted of Max Timm-Ballard, Natalie Fink and Abby Crowley.
Fink also took second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:06.49. She took a team-best third in the 50 freestyle (27.24).
Miranda Ruff accomplished a lifetime best in the 50 free with a time of 28.97.
Timm-Ballard, Shelby Gordon and Jennifer Cho finished with three of the top four spots in the 100 backstroke.
Timm-Ballard grabbed first (1:01.32), Gordon got third (1;16.20) and Cho swam to a fourth place finish (1:18.34).
Wa-Hi next swims at the District 5-6 meet in Ellensburg Oct. 26-27.
