PRESCOTT — The Prescott Joint Park and Recreation District is asking voters to approve a maintenance and operations levy in the upcoming election to fund operation of the Prescott Pool in 2013. The measure must receive a 60 percent “yes” vote to pass.
The M&O levy request is for $110,432. The estimated impact for property owners in the district will be $0.45 per $1,000 valuation, according to the Walla Walla County Assessor’s Office.
The Prescott Pool opened in 1958 and was operated by the Prescott School District until 1980. The PJPRD was formed in 1981 to operate the pool and the adjacent Field View Park. The PJPRD has the same boundaries as the Prescott School District.
According to PJPRD board chairman Patsy Walsh Adams, the district’s 2010 levy request failed, with a “yes” vote of 58.6 percent. As a result, the pool was closed throughout 2011.
A 2011 levy request passed with a “yes vote of 61.7 percent, and the pool was open for business this year as a result. Adams says it is unlikely the Prescott Pool will open in 2013 if the current levy measure fails to receive the required 60 percent approval.
