High school mass concert set in Waitsburg

WAITSBURG — Waitsburg High School will host a mass band and choir concert Wednesday evening, featuring high school students from small schools throughout Southeastern Washington. According to Waitsburg High School music director Brad Green, more than 150 musicians are expected to perform.

Participating schools include Waitsburg, Prescott, Touchet, Asotin, Clarkston, Colfax, Oakesdale, Tekoa, Rosalia, St. John Endicott, Kahlotus and Washtucna. The musicians, who have been learning the music at their individual schools, will gather for a joint rehearsal in the afternoon before the evening performance.

Former Walla Walla High School Choir director Paul Dennis will lead the singers and former Wa-Hi band director Glen Mitchell will conduct the band.

Choir music will include “Danny Boy”, a medley from the musical “Hairspray” and an African song, “O Sifuni Mungu”. Band selections will include music from “The Avengers” movie, the march “Klaxon” and a selection from the opera “Carmen.”

The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Waitsburg High School gym. Tickets are $10 for families, $4 for adults and $2 for students and seniors. Preschoolers are free.
