Inslee could protect caregivers' hours from state cuts

I go to work, everyday, to help my client to stay in his home. I am a state paid caregiver. I have watched how our state has balanced its budget on the backs of the elderly and the infirm. Every time it has a shortfall it cuts hours of service — almost a third — to those who need it the most in the past two years.

With Rob McKenna’s budget plan services to seniors and people with disabilities would be slashed, and I’m afraid these people would no longer be able to live in their homes and be institutionalized. This would cost the state thousands of dollars more each year.

Jay Inslee, on the other hand, has a history of pushing for federal legislation to help these same seniors and persons with disabilities. Inslee agrees with criminal background checks (can we be too careful who has these jobs?), training and is against any further cuts.

The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin should be totally ashamed for ignoring the care of those who need it the most and endorsing McKenna! No thanks, I’ll vote for Jay Inslee!
