Worksource website presents seasonal jobs

If you’re in the market for a seasonal job, you may want to check out a new online listing.

The state WorkSource system has created an online Holiday Job Marketplace at www.wa.gov/esd/holidayjobs. The new listing allows job seekers to search for jobs by geographic location and job titles. The job titles, including listings such as cashier, salesperson and shelf stocker, link directly to job openings posted on the Worksource website — go2worksource.com.

As of this morning, there was no direct link for the Walla Walla geographic area. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t be. Listings were available for communities from Grand Coulee to Marysville.

The uptick in retail jobs through the holidays can provide much needed training for workers, said state Employment Security Department Commisioner Paul Trause in the announcement. “Holiday work is a great opportunity for job-seekers to gain some experience while looking for a full-time job,” he said.

State economists project a similar seasonal hiring picture to last year. Retailers are expected to add more than 13,300 jobs statewide from October through December. Most of those gains are expected in November, the announcement said.

Last year, employers hired nearly 14,000 additional workers, which was about 9 percent higher than Employment Security’s prediction.

As in past years, general merchandisers should lead the way by adding some 7,400 jobs, down about 400 positions from the same period last year. Clothing and clothing-accessory stores expect to hire about 3,700 holiday workers, similar to the 2011 holiday season.
