Melani L. Hughes, 35, 612 S. 12th Ave., was sentenced Oct. 22 on one count each harassment and third-degree malicious mischief. The sentence included restitution to be determined, $200 in court costs, $62 in sheriff fees, $500 to the crime victims compensation fund, $775 in attorney fees, $100 biological fee, 270 days in the county jail, credit for 37 days served, 233 days converted to electronic home monitored detention. On Oct. 9 Hughes pleaded guilty to, by conduct, threatening to kill another person and to damaging property worth less than $750.

Nathan L. Koerner, 36, Burbank, was sentenced Oct. 19 on one count harassment — domestic violence. The sentence included restitution to be determined, $200 in court costs, $62 in sheriff fees, $500 to the crime victims compensation fund, $775 in attorney fees, $100 each domestic violence penalty assessment fee and biological fee, 364 days in the county jail, 319 days suspended, credit for 45 days served, 12 months probation. On Oct. 12 Koerner pleaded guilty to threatening bodily injury in the future to a family or household member, placing that person in fear the threat would be carried out, on or about Sept. 4.

Roberto De Grante Velez Jr., 31, 714 Spring St. was sentenced Oct. 22 on three counts second-degree possession of stolen property. The court dismissed four other counts. The sentence included restitution of $5,993.55, $200 in court costs, $198.40 in sheriff fees, $500 to the crime victims compensation fund, $775 in attorney fees, $100 biological fee, 60 days in the county jail, credit for 18 days served, 30 days converted to 240 hours community service. On Oct. 8 Velez pleaded guilty to possessing stolen credit cards from different people and withheld them form the true owners, knowing the cards were stolen, on July 21, Aug. 15 and Aug. 17.

Fernando J. Ramos, 42, 417 Cedar St., was sentenced Oct. 23 on one count each tampering with a witness and fourth-degree assault. The sentence included restitution of to be determined, $200 in court costs, $6147.80 in sheriff fees, $500 to the crime victims compensation fund, $775 in attorney fees, $100 biological fee, 364 days in the custody of the Department of Corrections, credit for 138 days served, 11 months community custody. On Oct. 8 Ramos pleaded guilty to tampering with a witness between June 10 and June 19 and assaulting that person on June 7.

Brent J. York, 43, 203 S. Second Ave, No. 4, was sentenced Oct. 23 on one count each second-degree burglary and first-degree theft. The court dismissed one other count. The sentence included restitution of $2,121.95, $200 in court costs, $82.40 in sheriff fees, $500 to the crime victims compensation fund, $775 in attorney fees, $100 biological fee, 25 months in the custody of the Department of Corrections, credit for 55 days served. On Oct. 8 York pleaded guilty to entering a business unlawfully with intent to steal property and wrongfully obtained property of a value exceeding $5,000 belonging to a business with intent to deprive the owner of the property on Aug. 29.

JUVENILE CASES

Jose L. Juarez-Lara, 17, 521 Chase Ave. was sentenced Oct. 19 on one count each minor in possession and or consuming liquor, obstructing a law enforcement officer and third-degree possession of stolen property. The sentence included 30 days in the Juvenile Justice Center, 12 months community supervision, 40 hours community service, $100 to crime victims compensation fund, $110 in court costs. On Oct. 5 Juarez-Lara pleaded guilty to possessing, consuming or acquiring liquor while under age 21; obstructing a law enforcement officer in the discharge of his or her duties; and knowingly possessing, retaining or concealing stolen property, all on July 14.
