Mac-Hi boys finish GOL slate undefeated after shutting out Ontario

ONTARIO — Mac-Hi defeated Ontario Saturday, 3-0, in the Pioneers’ final Greater Oregon League contest of the year.

Mac-Hi moved their record to an impressive 12-0 with the win as they prepare for the playoffs.

The Pioneers will have one final tune-up against the Riverside Pirates Tuesday before the playoff bracket is announced.

In the game against the Tigers, three different Pioneers scored.

Juan Pablo Martinez scored first, knocking in a loose ball unassisted.

Next Martinez hit a corner kick pass to Sergio Alvarez, who scored the second goal.

The third Pioneer goal was scored by Alex Saldana, who scored unassisted after dribbling past several defenders.

Coach Jose Garcia emphasized the Pioneers’ team work and that his team has played well together all season.

“We don’t have just one guy doing all of the finishing,” Garcia said. “We are depending on a whole big group of guys to do the scoring. Even the forwards have to work really hard to score.”

Keeper Saul Ortiz had six saves for the Pioneers to kept the shutout intact.
