CLARKSTON — The Waitsburg-Prescott boys placed fifth at the District 7/9 cross country championships Saturday with a team score of 135.
The lowest score wins and Tri-Cities Prep took first with a score of 51.
W-P’s Seth Deal grabbed second out of 93 competitors with a time of 15 minutes and 54.93 seconds in the 5,000-meter race.
Six other W-P racers contributed to the team finish.
Tewedros McDowell took 19th (17:10.18) and E.J. Meserve was next best at 38th (17:46.67).
Corey Braxton finished 40th (17:55.97) while Trent Hafen ran into a time of 18:21.89 (50th).
Jacob Dingfield (58th) ran a 18:40.77 and Kevin Kamel came in 83rd (20:56.29).
“I was so proud of my boys today,” Waitsburg-Prescott coach Joanna Lanning said. “We are a very young team — three of the seven are freshmen, along with two sophomores ... The boys raced hard and gave 100 percent.
“No coach could ask for more and we are excited to about being back at state with a full boys team.”
