COLBERT — Defending Class 2B state champion Waitsburg-Prescott ended its regular season here Saturday with a 6-1 boys soccer loss to Northwest Christian in what assistant coach Jay Potts called one of W-P’s “worst performances of the season.”
W-P, who will advance to the postseason as the top seed in District 9, was without two primary defenders — namely Alberto and Carlos Sandoval — due to sickness, according to Potts. Midfielder Aldair Escalante was out because of an injury, but Potts is hopeful he’ll be back for a regional contest on Tuesday at Spokane’s St. George’s High School against Northport, the No. 3 seed from District 7.
Rodrigo Gonzalez scored W-P’s only goal of the match. It occurred in the 34th minute.
W-P ended the regular season 10-3-1.
