Rich Cowan begins his statement in the Washington Voter’s Pamphlet by stating Eastern Washington deserves a member of Congress who knows how to create middle-class jobs, not tax cuts for millionaires. Congress is broken and needs experienced job creators like himself.
Hmmm, it seems the first lines are pretty self-serving. Congress has its problems and we have a president who is circumventing the constitutional process to achieve his goals by executive order as he did with part of the DREAM Act.
The answer, then, is not the election of Mr. Cowan, but the re-election of Cathy McMorris Rodgers.
Ms. McMorris Rogers has been representing Eastern Washington for eight years during which time she has crossed party lines to work on lowering taxes to create jobs, fostering good stewardship for farms and forests, supporting the VA Hospital here in Walla Walla, working with hydropower to help us become more energy independent, protecting women against potential violence, and the expansion of Fairchild Airforce base .
She continually works for us, her constituents; she is available to answer our concerns, whether it be in town hall format, phone call, or email. She knows that the House of Representatives is not only about creating jobs but there are other areas of need as she works for the betterment of her district.
The 5th Congressional District needs the return of Ms. McMorris Rogers to the House of Representatives. We cannot afford to elect someone who has a narrow objective and thereby start at the bottom of the pecking order of House committees. More is accomplished by the leadership of Ms. McMorris Rogers as she is the House Republican leader, vice chairwoman of House Republican Conference and is the highest ranking House Republican woman.
As a freshman legislator, Mr. Cowan would not be guarenteed the committee of his choice. There would not be means to exert his influence until the end of his term if at that.
It takes more than one term to understand the workings and committee system of the House. Ms. McMorris Rogers already has influence, works well with her peers, and understands the workings of House politics
I encourage you to join with me in voting for the betterment of the 5th District and return Cathy McMorris Rogers’ to the House of Representatives.
