ELMHURST, Ill. — The Whitman volleyball team swept John Carroll University at the Elmhurst Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Whitman took the first three sets, 25-19, 25-13, and 25-16.
Olivia Nielson hit a match-high .500 pct., with six kills and six blocks. Junior Rachel Cline dished out 31 assists to Whitman’s attackers, her highest assist total this season. Jillian Davis tied a season-high with 16 kills, while contributing five service aces in the victory.
Senior Rachel Shober led Whitman with 15 digs to solidify Whitman’s defense. Whitman’s back row proved strong throughout the match with five players having seven digs or more. The front line was not to be out done, as the team produced 22 blocks, led by seniors Corie Brewer and Nielson.
Whitman finished the Elmhurst Invitational with a 2-2 record. The Missionaries head up to Spokane for the Whit Classic next weekend to take on Whittier College, Luther College, and Whitworth University.

Freshman Hannah Linsenmayer contributed four service aces and eight digs in only her third match as a collegiate athlete. Becca Gotz led Whitman with 11 digs, helping to limit Albion’s offense to only 48 points over three sets.
