MILTON-FREEWATER — Mac-Hi’s girls’ soccer match with The Dalles-Wahtonka ended in a 2-2 draw Tuesday afternoon with junior forward Veronica Garcia scoring both of Mac-Hi’s goals.
The Pioneers opened scoring in the 25th minute with a Garcia goal on a Kariss Carrillo assist.
The Dalles took a 2-1 lead after goals in the 37th and 55th minutes before Garcia scored to even the count in the 57th off a Noimi Martinez assist.
Mac-Hi coach Martin Martinez said the Pioneers were limited by longer-than-usual grass at Shockman Field, which limited their ability to execute long passes.
The Pioneers outshot The Dalles 13-9, with a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Mac-Hi goalkeeper Alegandra had 3 saves in the draw.
Senior forward Carrillo sprained her ankle after her assist in the first half, but Martinez said she should be good to go for Mac-Hi’s 4 p.m. game at Redmond, Ore., on Friday.
“Freshman Alexis Breeding did a great job stepping up in her place,” Martinez said.
