RICHLAND — Wa-Hi’s volleyball team finished its season 3-3 at the eight-team Richland Jamboree here Saturday.
The jamboree was the first action for a young Blue Devil squad that features six sophomores, four juniors and two seniors.
“Our last two matches were wins, so that was great,” Wa-Hi assistant coach Kim McDaniels said. “It was good for us (head coach Don Hepker and his assistants) to get a look at the team. We’re a very young team.”
The Blue Devils opened the jamboree with a 25-4 win over Sunnyside, followed by a 25-7 loss to Pasco, 25-16 defeat to Richland and 25-20 decision to Kennewick. They closed with a pair of 25-22 wins over Hanford and Kamiakin.
Wa-Hi senior Torri Crawford led with 11 blocks and nine digs on the day.
Reece Carmen had 10 kills, Sierra Carmen five kills, Maddy Doepker 10 aces and Katie Green 24 assists.
“Chiawana and Richland will be our biggest (Mid-Columbia Conference) competition, but they’re beatable,” McDaniels said. “We see a lot of great opportunity. Our offense is very strong. We’re still working on our defense. Our average size is 6-foot, so we’re pretty tall.”
Wa-Hi host Kennewick at 7 p.m. tonight.
