Renovated Transportation Building reopens in Salem
SALEM — More than 400 employees have returned to their desks in the state Transportation Building in Salem after a two-year renovation project.
The 61-year-old building will be open to the public Saturday for an open house to show off new features.
The Statesman Journal reports visitors will be able to see that more than 200 window air conditioning units have been removed. Water flows through radiant panels in the ceiling to cool and heat the building.
And, 220 solar panels have been installed on the roof to supply about 6 percent of the building's needs. Collected storm water will be used to flush toilets on the first floor and basement.
